November medtech financings at over $170 million to date

Medical technology venture capital financings for the month of November 2009 (to date) have had a good start, totaling over $170 million in the first two weeks.  Noteworthy financings include $30 million by Entelleus Medical (treatment of sinusitis), $30 million by Fate Therapeutics (induced pluripotent stem cells), $27 million by Spinal Modulation (devices for treatment of chronic pain), and $21 million by On-Q-ity (cancer cell detection/testing).

Financings in October and September were down after two months each of $300+ million funding in August and July.  The trend is promising, but with four specific financings accounting for over half the funding, the balance of activity in November will determine with one can even suggest that funding is on a healthy pace.
